Jealous of Bratz Games

The Bratz games just keep showing up in the news – primarily because Barbie is seeing red. Mattel already won the lawsuit over copyright of the dolls, but MGA Entertainment was granted a stay for a bit before having to turn over everything to Mattel. Perhaps Mattel even plans to sell the company back to the original owners, but I doubt that is the case.

Sales Up, Sales Down
With the recent news about Bratz games, the dolls are getting more desirable. It doesn’t help that they are just as cute as ever. The urban look of the Bratz dolls is much more in line with what girls want to play with than the Barbie dolls.

But most painful of all for Barbie is the fact that Bratz keep selling more while Barbie sells less. Currently, it’s estimated that the Bratz dolls own 40% of the fashion doll market and Barbie only owns 60%. Barbie used to own all of the market, the full 100%, so this is especially painful for the giant toy company.

Finding a Future
Both fashion doll lines are now looking forward trying to decide what the future will hold. For Barbie, the future is rather bright with a full redesign and a fiftieth birthday party to celebrate. The future of the Bratz is, at best, uncertain.
