Bratz Were Stolen?!

There is a lawsuit about to go to trial between Mattel, the maker of Barbie dolls, and MGA Entertainment, the maker of Bratz dolls, claiming the idea for Bratz dolls came while the inventor still worked for Mattel. If Carter Bryant, the designer of the dolls, was working for Mattel when he thought up the idea of the various Bratz games, technically, the idea belonged to Mattel – Not MGA.

He claims, however, that he had the idea during a time he wasn’t working for Mattel. Unfortunately for him, this was a short time after one stint working for Mattel and before working for Mattel again. It’s going to be tricky to prove his ideas came during the few moments he wasn’t working there.

If Mattel can prove that Bryant developed the idea while employed with that doll maker, the entire Bratz line might just be swept into Mattel, and Bratz might become sisters with Barbie. Weird!

If that’s not odd enough to think about, MGA is claiming that Mattel actually stole the idea for some of its dolls from the Bratz line. Who needs the WWE when you have two doll makers slugging it out in court?
